Having grown up in Stillwater on the eastern border of Minnesota, my experiences in life have been informed by the continuing change in the landscape character around my home.
I was privileged in my younger years to have parents who were structured in the amount of time spent outdoors. As a result camping, hiking, swimming, biking, and evening walks with our family dog are fond memories for me. My parents have had the greatest influence on my life, encouraging my brother and myself to never give up, to do what we love, and to always be true to ourselves. My interest in the study of landscape developed from an early age as a result of helping my parents care for our property. It was in the repetition of tasks, the observation of seasonal change, and the recognition that stewardship can form the land that my love of landscape and horticulture was founded. Through my growing appreciation of nature and the encouragement of my family, I decided to pursue degrees in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture at Purdue University.
With over a decade of professional landscape architecture experience working with firms including OLIN, Sasaki, David Rubin Land Collective, and Merritt Chase, I have worked on projects in North, Central, and South America, Europe, and Asia. My work encompasses a wide range of typologies including residential, campus, urban, streetscape, waterfront, governmental, as well as various design competitions. My planting designs incorporate the form, color, and texture of native and adapted plant species; focusing on the relationships between species as the seasons progress, while also creating habitat and food sources for native fauna.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, I decided to take a sabbatical from the office environment to further explore my passion for visual and digital art. I am currently working out of my home studio in Stillwater and shared office in St Paul.
A selection of my work is available in my Etsy shop.
